I've been wanting to write about bullying for a while now. But I never get around to it. Now that we have yet again someone committing suicide in the news because of bullying, I figured I've waited long enough.
There is nothing right about bullying. I am no saint here, I know I have bullied people before and, in most cases, I have now apologised for it or am trying to make amends. Everyone has bullied someone at some point in time. The difference is, some of us apologise for it and go out of our ways to make sure we don't do it again. But somehow, there are people out there who 'don't believe' in bullying. WTF, right? Every word you say (in person, over text, on paper or online) has consequences. It doesn't matter who you speak to, you should always be aware.
I'be been bullied a lot when I was younger. School wasn't that simple for me. A red head in brasil isn't normal. A brazilian in australia isn't normal. I've heard it all. I've never been physically bullied, but I've been told things that would break most people. And I've come very close to breaking too. But I didn't. I believe if you have the support of your family, you can achieve anything.
Bullying now is so simple and easy. Things like posting a comment on someone's photo online and calling them fat or ugly. From your side, you shouldn't do that. From their side, they shouldn't just be ok with you saying it. It isn't easy to ignore what people say, but sometimes you have no other choice.
Children will bully other children. That's how you learn. The first few times you get bullied, you will tell someone and that person will hopefully help you through it. That will then teach you not to do the same to other people. On the other case, after you bully someone a coule of times, they will most likely say something and you should be told that what you are doing is not ok. Bullying is never ok.
Whenever I see young teenagers bullying each other constantly, I feel like they lack someone in heir life. Someone that has the guts to tell them to stop what they are doing, that it is not ok and that they should be good to each other. If you don't like them, don't talk to them.
Suicide is in a new high. It has been for a while, but people din't seem o believe it. Now that it is on the news, people are beginning to understand. Well, some people. The fact that someone gets bullied, kills themselves, it goes on the news and some moron makes a comment saying how 'they deserved it' is the ultimate bullying. The fact that e allow that to happen, is just sad.
What makes me angry about bullying is that adults do it too. When I finished school I figured the bullying would stop. How wrong was I?! Uni wasn't bad at all. But once you start working in real life, for good, you see how adults and such bullies. They are the ones teaching the kids tat you can get way with it.
It is NOT ok to bully someone at work. It is NOT ok to bitch behind their backs (that is just another form of bullying). It is NOT ok to put them down.
As long as we still have adults being bullies, we will never be able to have a bully free generation.
